    Dear Parents and Spectators,

I want to take a moment to emphasize the importance of sportsmanship and respectful behavior at our games. As parents, your presence at your child’s athletic events plays a crucial role in shaping their experience. Your support and enthusiasm are invaluable to our athletes, and we appreciate your dedication to creating a positive environment for everyone involved.

    Respect for Referees and Coaches

Referees and coaches play crucial roles in ensuring the smooth conduct of our games. They dedicate their time and effort to support our athletes and uphold the integrity of the sport. It is essential that we show them the respect they deserve. Here are a few guidelines to keep in mind:

    1. Respectful Communication: Always communicate with referees and coaches in a respectful manner. Avoid using derogatory language or gestures, regardless of the situation.

    2. Positive Encouragement: Focus on cheering for teams in an encouraging manner. Positive reinforcement can significantly boost their morale and performance.

    3. Understanding and Patience: Referees and coaches make decisions based on their best judgment. Understand that they are human and can make mistakes. Patience and understanding go a long way in maintaining a positive atmosphere.

    4. Allow Coaches to Coach: Please refrain from coaching the athletes from the sidelines. Our coaches are responsible for making play calls and guiding the team. Your role is to support and cheer for the athletes, allowing the coaches to do their job effectively. Employ the 24-hour rule, waiting 24 hours to discuss practice or game situations with coaches.

    5. Lead by Example: Parent behavior sets an example for our athletes. Demonstrating good sportsmanship and respect encourages them to do the same.

    Creating a Positive Environment

Our goal is to create a supportive and inclusive environment where all participants feel valued and respected. By adhering to these principles, we can ensure that our games are enjoyable and enriching experiences for everyone involved.

By modeling respect and sportsmanship, you are teaching your child invaluable life lessons that extend beyond the field or court.  Show your child the importance of fair play, graciousness in both victory and defeat, and the ability to accept decisions made by referees.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. Together, let’s continue to create a culture of sportsmanship that promotes respect, integrity, and camaraderie in school sports.

    Sincerely,

    Michael Brostowski
