French AP Language and Culture

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF COURSE:

This course follows the outline provided by the College Board.  It covers the equivalent of a third?year college course in Advanced French Language and  Culture. The course culminates in the Advanced Place­ment examination through which students may earn college credit.  The values inherent in acquiring second-language mastery and heightened cultural awareness of the multi-cultural society in which we live are promoted.

MAJOR TOPICS COVERED:

Course content reflects the intellectual interests shared by the students and the teacher.  These include contemporary life, personal and public identities,    family and community,  glabal challenges, science and technology, and the arts. These areas of interest are used to promote communication: (a) the ability to comprehend formal and informal spoken French; (b) the acquisition of vocabulary and a grasp of structure to allow the easy, accurate reading of newspaper an magazine articles as well as of modern Francophone literature; © the ability to compose expository passages; and (d) the ability to express ideas orally with accuracy and ease.
