DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT 2024-25 SCHOOL BUDGET
HOW TAX DOLLARS ARE SPENT
About 80 percent of every school budget is an investment in people. Contribution rates for the state retirement systems will increase next year. Higher contribution rates paid by employees for health insurance help to offset increases in premiums.
SOURCES OF REVENUE
Property taxes comprise by far the largest source of revenue. Like many Long Island school districts, Roslyn receives little aid from New York State, which provides less than 9% of the district’s overall funding. Reserve funds help to keep the tax levy steady from year to year, in addition to providing a revenue source for long-term expenses, like capital improvements, that fall outside the annual budget.AS OF APRIL 16, 2024
The linked document includes 3 different ways of viewing the proposed budget for 2024-25. An Administrator Budget Summary, along with a detailed Administrator line by line view is included, followed by a detailed budget report with account and development notes.
WHY? The function code indicates why something is allocated in the budget.
WHAT? The object code describes the specific item or service.
WHERE? The location code tells us where the item or service is being provided.
WHICH? The program code specifies which part of the program the item or service is allocated for.
WHO? The administrator code identifies the individual who is responsible for the budget item.
The budget reflects an increase of 3.99% over 2023-24 and includes all changes in staffing and services and materials and equipment as approved by the Board of Education. The proposed increase in the tax levy is 2.79%, significantly less than the state levy limit of 3.07%.
Included in each of the "Summary" and "Line by Line" sections are actual expenditures for 2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22, 2020-21, 2022-23, as well as the 2022-23 and 2023-24 budgets, the proposed budget for 2024-25, and the difference in dollars and percentage between the proposed budget and the current budget. The "Detailed" budget includes the actual expenditures for 2021-22, 2022-23, the 2022-23 budget, the current 2023-24 budget, and the proposed budget for 2024-25 as well as a description of each item the district plans to purchase under each budget code.
