    A Message from the Chairperson:

"The study of history is a powerful antidote to contemporary arrogance."
    Paul Johnson

By studying history and the various social science disciplines, students gain an understanding of our government, social institutions and cultural heritage and how they inform modern society.  Throughout the program, students acquire the skills to become critical thinkers and active citizens in a democratic society and an increasingly interdependent world.

Grade 6 offers a survey of World History and grades 7-8 explore American History.  All grades follow a state mandated curriculum.  Electives are offered in grades 6-8 which strive to link history, literature and ethics in a seminar, discussion  intensive format.

From 9th through 12th grade, courses in Global and American history, government and economics are based on and closely follow the NYS curriculum. At each of the four grade levels students are given options to choose courses that best meet their needs and interests.  Please refer to the flowchart on p.44 of the HS course offering catalog.

It is our sincere hope that every student will benefit from this course of study and be better prepared to meet the challenges of college life and the workplace.  Most important, we hope they will build on what they learned here and continually reflect on what it means to be virtuous and live a good life.
