Three RHS Students Honored with Quill Awards
Three Roslyn High School students were honored with Quill Awards at Adelphi University's Annual Press Day event—held February 26, 2021. The recognition was bestowed for articles they wrote for The Hilltop Beacon—Roslyn High School’s student newspaper.
Ashley Mazarin placed first in the category of Best Opinion Piece (2020, January) Lack of In-Person Driver’s Ed Misstep in Proper Road Safety. Amanda Lerner won third place in the category of Best Feature Article (2020, October) for Ms. Prophett Sets a Positive Tone. Jared Chapman placed third in the category of Best Sports Story (2020, February) for Boys Basketball Proves Resilience.
“Congratulations to our deserving writers for their dedication to their craft and for all their hard work,” said faculty advisors Jolene Grgas and Kristen Hamilton.
Approximately 225 high school students from across Long Island, Queens and Upstate New York participated in the day-long Virtual Press Day event hosted by Adelphi University. Each year, the event provides student-journalists with some tricks of the trade from seasoned print and digital media professionals and Adelphi communications faculty through panels and workshops.
