Young Investors at Roslyn Elementary Schools
May 7, 2019 - This spring, Roslyn’s fourth and fifth graders participated in the Stock Market Game during their Enrichment Workshop. The game is played by many schools across Long Island. Students gave up their recess to learn about the ups and downs of the stock market. Each team has one goal: to make the most money from their investments and to diversify their portfolios. Their motto was simple but effective: "buy low, sell high".After 10 weeks of studying their portfolios and tracking stocks closely, students at East Hills School and Harbor Hill School were recognized among the top investing teams. Out of the 208 teams that participated across Long Island, Harbor Hill’s fourth graders Gilbert Sudaley, Ethan David, Alex Berrezueta and Matthew Gildea placed second with a gain of over $12,000. Hunter Wu of East Hills School took the lead after investing in a company based on its ticker symbol, HUNT. This stock more than doubled in a day. Hunter advanced from 23rd place to first with a gain of over $29,000!
The students who chose to participate in this Enrichment Workshop were led by their Enrichment teacher, Suzanne Falcone. The students and their teacher were honored by the SIFMA Foundation at an awards luncheon held at Hofstra University. Congratulations to all who participated!
