Generous PFA Donation Boosts RHS Pantry

A recent $1,000 check donation from the Roslyn High School Parent Faculty Association (PFA) marked another step in the development of the food pantry at RHS—a project started by teachers Alysse Graziano and Karen Feeney.

Over a year ago, Graziano and Feeney envisioned a food pantry as a way to offer vocational skills to their students while providing an essential service to the community. They shared the idea with RHS Principal Dr. Scott Andrews, who enlisted the support of the PFA co-presidents to turn the vision into reality. The PFA helped equip the pantry with new shelving, carts, and a refrigerator, making the space fully functional for students.

Since then, the food pantry has grown into a fully functioning service, amassing thousands of pounds of donations. This initiative not only provides essential resources to those in need but also offers students hands-on experience with inventory management, community needs assessment, and teamwork, and fostering a deep sense of community responsibility.

"The pantry has become a major part of our vocational program," said Ms. Graziano, "It offers students critical skills to support their post-secondary goals."

"While the classroom is vital, the pantry offers a unique workspace where I can identify and nurture the skills my students will need post-graduation," added Feeney.

The PFA's recent donation—raised through a successful food and resource drive— will help replenish the pantry’s supplies. Donations are welcome throughout the year, but cash donations are especially helpful because they allow students to gain the experience of shopping in-person for needed items. Members of the local community can donate to the pantry via Venmo @RHS-PFA.
