Roslyn School District Marks 23nd Anniversary of 9/11
The Roslyn School District marked the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks with a day of remembrance and reflection. Students, faculty, and staff throughout the district were encouraged to wear red, white, and blue to show solidarity and honor those who lost their lives. Teachers were ready to address difficult questions as students learned about this pivotal moment in the nation's history.
At East Hills Elementary School, students gathered in front of the building to sing patriotic songs, hear short speeches, and receive a lesson on the significance of the commemoration. Local firefighters were also in attendance. At Harbor Hill Elementary School, students gathered in the front circle to sing patriotic songs and present heartfelt letters to local law enforcement and members of the Roslyn Fire Department. Heights first-graders wrote letters to thank firefighters and police officers.
At the beginning of second period at Roslyn Middle School, everyone recited the Pledge of Allegiance, listened to a remembrance speech from Principal Johanson, and observed a moment of silence. At Roslyn High School, Principal Scott Andrews used the PA system to inform students about the day’s events and also observed a moment of silence. His message was followed by the playing of "God Bless America."
