Science Olympiad Team Qualifies for States
FEB 4, 2019 - Roslyn High School’s Science Olympiad team competed in and placed 4th in the Nassau County West Division C Regionals hosted at Kellenberg Memorial High School on February 2. This 4th place finish earns the team a qualification for the States Competition. The Roslyn Science Olympiad team has a strong record, consistently reaching State Finals for the past 7 out of 8 years.
Roslyn’s A Team, consisting of the older and more experienced students from the school, performed spectacularly. Students in events such as Disease Detectives, Thermodynamics, and Sounds of Music did exceptionally well, with students placing first, fourth, and fourth respectively. In total, the A team medaled in 16 out of the 24 events and the B team medaled in 4 events.
Trained by the captains Jeffrey Yu, Johanna Kahn, Melanie Landesberg, Kevin Lam, Mayeesa Rahman, and Maleeha Rahman, Roslyn’s A Team achieved 4th place overall out of 39 schools, earning a qualification for the state competition. Roslyn’s own B Team, consisting of the younger and more inexperienced students from the school, placed 13th out of the 39 schools as well. Students were led by advisors Mrs. Tsarevsky, Mr. Kreyling, and Mr. Marvin.
The Roslyn team will be competing in the New York State Science Olympiad at Le Moyne College in Syracuse on March 15-16.
