Boys Track and Field
COUNTY CHAMPIONS!
The boys track and field team is coached by Kristen Hamilton and Mark Valentino.
The athletes who competed were Peter Ackermann, Sean Balakhanei, John Barreto, Malachi Beckett, Barr Berco, Max Bergman, Ryan Chen, Taylor Diamond, Matt Friedman, Michael Gallardo, Nate Griffin, Alex Hazel, Roey Kafri, Ishmael Lamarque, Nicholas Leong, Chris Liotta, Michael Needham, Keagan Reilly, Alex Vazouras, Jack Waldman, Daniel Williams, Elijah Yeroushalmi and Henry Yu.
Some of the notable individual performances by Roslyn's student-athletes:
Michael Needham went into the discus with a personal best of 134' and threw a 151’4”, which is just 5 inches off the state standard and a new school record. He also improved in the shot put to throw over 46’.
Nicholas Leong went into the triple jump with a personal best of 42’8 and ended up winning the meet on his final jump of 45’1".
Ishmael Lamarque and Roey Kafri scored in both the long and triple jumps, which means Roslyn had 3 of the top 6 jumpers in the county in both events.
Keagan Reilly finished in a three-way tie for second in the pole vault. He came into the meet with a season best of 10’ and improved a foot to vault 11’, a new school record. He had no misses.
Peter Ackermann placed fourth in the 400H then came back and battled a tough 110H field to finish 3rd in a personal best time of 16.21.
Alex Vazouras was impressive in the throws, finishing 4th in the discus with a new season best 116’, and then surprised the competition in the shot put with a 40’2” throw for third. Our newest thrower, Matt Friedman finished 6th in his first season of track.
Michael Gallardo finished 4th in the 3000-meter steeple chase with a new personal best 10:48.5.
Nicholas Leong also won the 200 in a time of 22.9, which put Roslyn up 30 points heading into the relays.
The boys clinched the title when the 4x1 team of Daniel Williams, Ishmael Lamarque, Alex Hazel, and Roey Kafri held off a charging Manhasset team to finish 3rd in a time of 45.69 for All County honors.
