RHS Orchestra Director Wins Prestigious LI Performance Prize

The Roslyn School District is proud to announce that Roslyn High School Orchestra Director Douglas Aliano has been selected as the winner of the second annual North Shore Symphony Orchestra (NSSO) Long Island Music Educator Performance Prize.

The award recognizes music educators across Long Island who demonstrate exceptional artistic performance, dedication to music education, and a commitment to inspiring young musicians. Following a competitive adjudication process, the NSSO panel selected Douglas for his outstanding performance of Giovanni Bottesini’s virtuoso masterpiece, Concerto No. 2 in B Minor.

"This prestigious honor highlights the incredible caliber of talent within our music department," said Roslyn High School Principal Dave Lazarus. "Douglas models true artistic excellence for our students every day, proving that dedication to instruction and high-level performance go hand in hand."

As the prize recipient, Douglas will perform as the featured soloist alongside the North Shore Symphony Orchestra during their featured concert on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at the historic Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City.

"Your artistry, dedication to music education, and commitment to inspiring the next generation of musicians truly embody the spirit of this award," wrote Susan DelGiorno, Co-President of the Friends of North Shore Symphony Orchestra. "The adjudication panel was deeply impressed by the quality of your performance and overwhelmingly enthusiastic about performing the Bottesini Concerto No. 2 with you in concert."
