Harbor Hill Students Blend Creativity and Civic Learning in School-Wide Election
Harbor Hill Elementary students took part in a school-wide election centered around creativity and school pride. Each student created a unique piece of artwork in art class which exemplifies what the motto, “We Can and We Will at Harbor Hill” means to them.
Parents from the PFA and Shared Decision Committee created a document that included all the artwork along with a Google Form which the students used as their “ballot” to cast their vote in the primary for their favorite design. Following the primary, a General Election was held on December 2nd where students from each grade level voted on one piece of artwork to be featured on items that include: stickers, bookmarks, keychains, the cover of next year's agenda book, and the 5th grade field day t-shirts.
"The Shared Decision Committee has been working on this activity for the past few years and it was so wonderful seeing it come to fruition,” said Harbor Hill Principal Michelle Hazen. “ The students had so much fun being a part of and learning about the election process."
