Hands-On Hematology at East Hills

Ms. Casey Brown’s third graders at East Hills Elementary School enjoyed a special visit from Dr. Julie Krystal, a pediatric hematologist-oncologist — and proud Roslyn class parent — who brought real-world science into their classroom. Dr. Krystal introduced students to the vital role blood plays in keeping the body healthy and explained its key components: plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.

Students then rolled up their sleeves for a hands-on activity, creating their own model of blood using materials that represented each component. The interactive lesson sparked curiosity and helped students better understand how blood keeps their bodies healthy.
