About 80 percent of every school budget is an investment in people. Contribution rates for the state retirement systems will increase next year. Higher contribution rates paid by employees for health insurance help to offset increases in premiums.
SOURCES OF REVENUE
Property taxes comprise by far the largest source of revenue. Like many Long Island school districts, Roslyn receives little aid from New York State, which provides less than 9% of the district’s overall funding. Reserve funds help to keep the tax levy steady from year to year, in addition to providing a revenue source for long-term expenses, like capital improvements, that fall outside the annual budget.
