The Roslyn Board of Education


Members of the Board of Education 2007-08

Dani Kline was first elected to the Board in 2004 and was re-elected in 2006. She and her husband, David, have a daughter in the eighth grade at Roslyn Middle School and a son in the ninth grade at Roslyn High School. Before becoming a member of the Board, she was on the board of the PTA and on the Shared Decision Making Committee at Harbor Hill School, and a member of the Coordinating Council of PTA's. She spent 22 years in the corporate world, most recently as senior vice president at Viacom. She is currently Board President.


Ron Smith was elected to the Board in 2006. He retired from the Merrick school district in 2003 after 13 years as superintendent of schools. Prior to that he was an assistant superintendent in the Levittown school district for 15 years. He holds a doctorate in psychology and worked as a school psychologist prior to becoming a school administrator. Before becoming a Board trustee, he chaired the Budget Advisory Committee, a role he has assumed again this year. He and his wife, Kathy, have been residents of Roslyn Heights for 18 years.


Kim Hunter was elected to the Board of Education in 2007. She and her husband, Timothy, have three sons, two currently attending Roslyn Middle School and one at Roslyn High School. Ms. Hunter is the owner/director of Truelight Family Day Care in Roslyn Heights. For 13 years, she worked for the New York City Housing Authority. Her professional and community affiliations include the Nassau Association for Continuing Education, the Child Care Council of Nassau County, the Friendship Baptist Church and the Roslyn Heights Civic Association. She was a member of the Budget Advisory Committee for two years prior to becoming a Board trustee.


Cliff Saffron is a 13-year resident of the Roslyn school district. He has served on the board of the Albertson Soccer League, as president of the Country Estates Swim Club, and on the planning committee for the Park at East Hills, and on the fundraising committee for Schneider Children's Hospital in Lake Success. An attorney by profession, he is a partner with KPMG in Manhattan. He and his wife Jackie have a daughter who graduated from Roslyn High School in 2007 and another daughter currently in grade 9. He was first elected to the Board in a special election in 2004 and was re-elected in 2005 and 2008. He currently chairs the Citizens Advisory Audit Committee.


David Seinfeld was elected to the Board in 2006. He has been an educator for more than 20 years, including more than 15 years as an adminsitrator. Since 2003, he has been principal of Calhoun High School in Merrick and was previously principal at North Shore High School in Glen Head. He has been a member of the executive board of Roslyn Little League and has coached baseball, basketball and soccer during his family's 15 years in Roslyn. He and his wife, Laura, have two sons, one in the ninth grade and one who graduated from Roslyn High School last June. He chairs the Communications Committee.


Stanley Stern was first elected to the Board in 2004 and re-elected in 2007. He served as president during his first two years as a trustee. He and his wife, Barbara, who was the long-time director of the Building Blocks Day Care Center, have been Roslyn residents for 40 years. Their two children graduated from Roslyn High School and they now have several grandchildren attending schools in the district. Mr. Stern had a long career as a teacher and administrator with the New York City Board of Education, serving as principal at P.S. 206 in Rego Park, Queens. He currently chairs the Student Welfare Committee.


Meryl Waxman Ben-Levy was elected to the Board in 2005 and re-elected in 2008. Prior to becoming a trustee, her service to the Roslyn Public Schools included working on the PTA at both the Heights School and Harbor Hill School and as a member of both the Budget Advisory Committee and Citizens Advisory Audit Committee. An attorney by profession, she has been very active on legislative issues and chairs the Board's Legislative Affairs Committee. She and her husband, Shai, have two children, a daughter in the fourth grade at Harbor Hill School and a son in sixth grade at Roslyn Middle School. She is currently Board Vice President.
